Feel good about yourself, by being yourself

I feel good when I am being myself, doing the things I enjoy, with the people I like. There are some really useful tools I have in my therapy work for working out exactly what the problem areas are in your life, what values you make your decisions from and what the thoughts or emotions are that hold you back from feeling good about yourself.

I have done  a lot of inner work, with NLP and EMPR method for diving in deep to discover more about myself. It’s always amazing to be in session and have my language pulled a part, to have a monumentous insight about an unconscious pattern I’ve been playing out. I’ll share one of my great moments recently.

I chose to work on honesty, (how I am not being myself) and how I hold back my truth from fear of hurting people in my circle. Holding back from being my authentic self, from speaking my truth, comes from fear of rejection, of looking stupid and unkind.

Diving deeper into this, we discovered I use rage as a convenient excuse to express my truth, then I apologise afterwards. This all stems from a childhood pattern of playing the nice girl. I would fight for equality using anger to express myself about the injustice of the situation and feel righteous about it.

I would feel guilt and shame about getting angry and hurting other people and in the process hurt myself by telling myself I am out of control or mean. So, you can see how supressing who you really are, actually causes more problems. So I have been working on speaking my truth, in clear, respectful and kind ways. Using simple and easy communication methods.
