Everytime I step away, I remember who I am

Every Time I Leave, I Remember Who I Am

There is something profoundly healing about stepping away from the busyness of everyday life. Being back on the road recently reminded me of that truth once again. When I allow myself to experience life without the titles, the roles, the business, the endless to-do lists, and the responsibilities, I find myself again.

Every getaway feels like a rebirth. It's as though each time I create enough space, I peel back another layer of who the world has asked me to be and reconnect with who I have always been beneath it all.

A spiritual being having a human experience. I don't simply believe this, I feel it.

Yet life has a way of pulling us away from that knowing.
School runs. Teenagers. Sport. Running multiple businesses. Supporting clients.
Nurturing family. Maintaining friendships. Managing a home.
These are all beautiful parts of life, but they also ask for our time, our attention, and our energy. Before we know it, we've become so focused on caring for everyone else that we forget to care for ourselves.  This trip reminded me how nourishing it is
To simply be, to sleep in without guilt. Drink as many cups of tea as I want.
Read for hours, and listen to audiobooks.
To draw and paint. Meditate and walk.
To sit quietly in the sunshine with absolutely nowhere to be.

That kind of spaciousness isn't laziness. It's medicine.

Now, don't get me wrong—it wasn't all picture-perfect. I was travelling with two teenagers in a very small space! There were moments of frustration, and parenting challenges.
Instead of resisting those moments, I accepted them. I accepted myself. I accepted my decisions. I trusted that if I didn't get it perfect today, I could simply do better tomorrow. There was no need for guilt or self-judgment. Only compassion. Only trust. Only presence. And that, to me, is real freedom.
Not because life suddenly becomes easy, but because we stop fighting ourselves while we're living it. The more I return to myself, the more I remember that life was never meant to be lived as one long list of responsibilities.

Life is a magical journey.

One that asks us to experience wonder. To notice beauty. To reconnect with our spirit. To remember that we are energy before we are achievement.
Presence before productivity.
Being before doing.
A Gentle Reflection
Take a few quiet moments with your journal and explore these questions:
  • When was the last time you truly felt like yourself?
  • Which roles or responsibilities have been taking up most of your energy lately?
  • What activities make you feel peaceful, joyful, and deeply connected?
  • If you gifted yourself one completely uninterrupted day, how would you spend it?
  • What would it feel like to remember that you are a spiritual being having a human experience?
You don't need a week away to reconnect with yourself. Sometimes it begins with a single conscious breath, a walk in nature, or ten minutes sitting quietly with a cup of tea. The journey home always begins with creating space.
