It’s funny… when I reflect on my family lineage, I used to feel a lot of shame about the work we did. I come from a carnival family, four generations and counting. Hamilton Amusements has been part of my bloodline for nearly a hundred years.

As a child, it was magical. Travelling, meeting people, living in that bright, colourful world… it was fun in the purest way. But as I got older, I pushed it away. I thought it was shallow. I wanted depth. Meaning. Spirituality. Something “more serious.”

But the older I get, the more I realise something profound:

Bringing joy, light, and fun into the world is depth.

It is medicine.
It is healing.
It is a vibration.
And my family has been doing that for generations.

I finally understand what a gift that is.

My brothers now run the business, my aunty and uncle still work in it. My nieces and nephews stand at the game stalls like I once did. This is a family tradition built on joy, on community, on lighting up people’s lives, even if only for a moment.

And alongside that, we were a devout Catholic family. So despite what some assume about “carnies,” my upbringing was sweet, grounded, and full of heart. No chaos. No wild stories. Just a simple, beautiful life built around togetherness and good values.

My parents actually met at the showgrounds, both helping their own parents run their carnival equipment. It’s not a movie-style romance, but it’s a real one. One built on shared values: joy, connection, and good vibrations. And funny enough… those are the exact things I now help people come home to.

My work today is not so different from my family’s legacy.
